Energy

Over the next 15 years, Asia's demand for energy is expected to more than double- accounting for approximately 40 percent of world energy demand. Soaring demand is pushing Asian reliance on the Persian Gulf. Expanding fossil fuel usage will intensify climate change and acid rain; in roder to achieve a sustainable future, Asia must turn away from fossil fuels. Natural gas and coal will be attractive alternatives. The nuclear option has been most harnessed by Japan, which must press upon its neighbors the culture of safety and accountability in nuclear power.
