America's global primacy depends on the length and effectiveness of its preponderance in Eurasia. Eurasia is vital because of its material and human resources. What sort of relationship does the United States desire with Europe? Its treatment of European dissent on issues in the Middle East seem to indicate that European subordination, rather than equality, is desired. The role of NATO will have to be changed to account for the de facto equality of a united Europe, should it emerge. It must also take account of Russia. Central Asia, including India, presents the possibility of a conflict bigger than any seen before. The rise of China as a regional power would present many changes for the US, including the possiblity of the loss of Japan as an ally in containment. The United States must cement its influence in Eurasia.
