Netanyahu and the Future of Israel

May 7, 2006 by Noel Kaplowitz Bookmark and Share

Benjamin Netanyahu's 1993 book "A Place Among the Nations: Israel and the World" is reviewed. Although Netanyahu argues that early Zionist leaders should not have accepted the 1921 partition of the Palestine Mandate along the Jordan River, the point is made that no territory was ever guaranteed; anything was welcome. Netanyahu's argument for a strategy of deterrence based on what he believes to be the intransigence of the Arab world is confronted. A firm but cooperative strategy for Israel grounded in realism is advanced.
