How can EU identity and citizenship be further strengthened?

Building a stronger European identity is an evolutionary process; it will take time. Europe is a continent of modern tribalism - we all want to keep our regional and national identities. On the other hand, Europeans want to weave their distinct cultures in into a broader European fabric. To this end, we have achieved more integration than we ever thought possible.

Q: Lets start off with what you think about the election of Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in Somalia. Does his presidency offer some hope to Somalia?

 

For the first time in years, I am mildly optimistic about events in Somalia. I haven’t been at all over these past 19 years, since the state collapsed in January 1991. There are a number of ‘ifs’ that could really give Somalia a chance.
